BARCELONA EYEING LOAN MOVE FOR AUBAMEYANG

Barcelona are eyeing a loan move for displaced Arsenal captain Pierre-EmerickAubameyang ahead of the January transfer window. This is according to the report from the Daily Mail which stated that the Catalan giants are keen on the Gabon international but his weekly wages could be a stumbling block to any deal. Pierre-EmerickAubameyang earns around £350,000 on a weekly basis following the new contract signed at the start of last season.

The long-term future of Pierre-EmerickAubameyang at Arsenal is far from certain after he was removed as the Gunners skipper as punishment for disciplinary breach. He has missed the last three Arsenal games as a result.

Arsenal have thrived without Aubameyang on the pitch in thosegames, all in the Premier League. Without the Gabonese striker, Arsenal have won all the three games. The first of the three games was a 3-0 home win over Southampton thanks to goals from Alexandre Lacazette, Martin Odegaard and Brazilian central defender Gabriel Magalhaes. The Southampton game preceded the impressive 2-0 home win over fellow top-four chaser West Ham United. Second half goals from Gabriel Martinelli and English substitute Emile Smith-Rowe gave Arsenal the three points on offer. The North Londoners made it three successive league wins without Pierre-EmerickAubameyang in the squad with the 4-1 away win over Leeds United at the weekend courtesy the goals from Gabriel Martinelli, Emile Smith-Rowe and Bukayo Saka. The big win over Leeds United ensured that Arsenal cemented their place in the top four as far as the race to qualify for next season’s Champions League football is concerned.

Various reports in the media have said that Aubameyang won’t be involved in the Arsenal squad until be returns from next year’s African Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament starting in Cameroon next year. He will definitely miss the Carabao Cup quarterfinal clash with Sunderland at the Emirates Stadium on Tuesday night.
