STURRIDGE CREDITS DROGBA

Daniel Sturridge has been one of the surprising packages for Liverpool this season. He was good for the club after his £ 12 million move from Chelsea last January, but not many expected him to be top of the Premier league scoring charts after 10 matches of the season. He has been able to help Liverpool overcome the absence of Luis Suarez, who was suspended from the opening few matches of the campaign. Sturridge’s impressive run of form is likely to make a regular starter at England level along with Wayne Rooney.

One of the reasons for this huge change within the 24-year-old has been his talk with former Chelsea striker Didier Drogba. Drogba and Sturridge know each other well from the time at Chelsea. Sturridge was largely used as a winger at Chelsea, but he is now playing as a striker at Anfield. The England international has revealed that he had taken advice from Drogba in the summer and it is starting to pay off. Drogba is regarded as one of the finest strikers to have graced English football. He scored more than 150 goals for Chelsea in eight years at the club.

He is currently playing for Turkish club Galatasaray after moving from Chinese club Shanghai Shenhua last January.

“I saw Didier in Miami this summer. He said the strongest thing an individual can have is the mental strength. He told me, ‘It’s not about the tactical, it’s not about the technical, it’s not about the physical. If you believe in yourself, that will set you apart.’ Stevie has helped me a lot in terms of mindset. He’s all about self belief; don’t go out there with the mentality of trying to do something. Just let it happen,” said Sturridge about his impressive start to the league season.
