FINISH ON A HIGH

Arsenal have been extremely good in the latter stages of the campaign over the last few years. It has helped them finish in the top four on several occasions. The club could be set for a similar finish this time around as well. The team showed that they have well and truly returned to form after the 2-0 win over Swansea during the weekend. This win was preceded by a 2-0 win against the German club Bayern Munich in the Champions League. Even though Arsenal were knocked out of the competition on away goals, Wenger said that they can build on this victory.

After the win over Swansea, the Frenchman fired a warning shot against the rivals like Tottenham and Chelsea. These two London clubs are realistically the competitors for Arsenal for a top four place. Even though Chelsea are a little far ahead for Arsenal to catch, they have closed the gap on Tottenham to just four points. Due to the fact that Arsenal have a game in hand over Tottenham, they could reduce the gap to just one point in a few weeks time. Arsenal also have a much easier fixture list compared to the likes of Tottenham and Chelsea. As a result, Wenger still believes that his team can finish in the top four.

“We knew the win was absolutely necessary and we couldn’t drop points. We’ve shown we’re up for a fight. To win away at Bayern Munich and three days later in the Premier League is very difficult. After Everton’s win the pressure was big. We have the right spirit and attitude,” said Wenger after the win over Swansea. After struggling to break down the home team in the first half, Nacho Monreal opened the scoring in the second half. Gervinho secured the game with a late goal.
